BACKGROUND

The British Embassy Kinshasa is looking for an Accountant to support the Corporate Services Team. This role is key in ensuring the smooth running of the Embassy.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The British Embassy Kinshasa requires the Accountant to take on a variety of finance tasks:

  • Account Payable: entering and maintaining internal Suppliers sites and invoices. Also making payment according to the FCO guidance and procurement procedures.
  • Account receivable: Receiving funds into the Embassy Accounts according to the FCO guidance and procedures.
  • Cash Management: monitoring of the post official Cash boxes, Unbanked Receipts and Bank accounts. Performing inter-bank transfers and reconciliations.
  • Maintenance of the Local Budget records
  • Preparing and monitoring an accurate Funding Profile for the Financial Year
  • Perform the End of months tasks according to the FCO guidance
  • Maintenance of the balance sheets and Subordinate Post accounts
  • Running reports and Providing Management Information to the Senior Managers
  • Calculation and payment of Local Staff salaries and pension contribution
  • Carry out account reconciliation with Suppliers and answering financial queries

The successful candidate will possess strong skills such as:

  • Experience in Accounting and Resource Management
  • Language skills: to be able to communicate fluently (oral and written expressions) both in English and French
  • IT skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook). Knowledge of accounting software would be an asset.
  • Learning skills: to be able to quickly learn and apply the Embassy procurement and accounting systems
  • Organisational skills (time management)
  • Work in a multicultural environment

Other qualities expected: Flexibility and reliability. The successful candidate must be trustworthy, able to maintain confidentiality and to comply with guidance.

This post offers a good salary and benefits package starting at $899/month plus transport, child, housing, medical allowances depending on circumstances.
